Our Roots
Our journey begins in the vibrant streets of Penang, back in 1981. It was a time when markets breathed life into the roads, transforming them into bustling centres of trade and community. Amongst the myriad of stalls and the lively chatter, Mr. I. Muthusamy, my father, established a modest but promising mutton business in the Island Glades Market.
His stall, uniquely positioned on the Island Glades road, quickly became a local landmark. As the only mutton seller in the area, he carved out a reputation for quality and dedication, setting a standard that would become the cornerstone of our family legacy.
Transition to Batu Lancang
As years passed, the Penang City Council envisioned a more structured approach to local markets. This vision gave birth to the Batu Lancang Market, a proper wet market that stands to this day as a testament to the city’s rich trading history. In 1990, with the grand opening of Batu Lancang, my father’s stall, “Daging Kambing Yang Bermuthu,” found its new home. For nearly three decades, this stall not only served the community with quality mutton but also became a symbol of enduring passion and hard work.

A Bittersweet Farewell
The year 2019 marked the end of an era. With the advent of Deepavali, my father, following the advice of his doctors, decided to retire, closing the chapter on a business that had thrived for decades. His decision, though necessary, was a poignant moment for our family and the loyal customers who had become part of our extended family.
New Beginnings in Johor
The legacy, however, was destined to continue. In 2021, amidst the challenges of the Covid Pandemic, I embarked on a journey to honour and continue my father’s legacy. With over 31 years of experience, having been a part of this business since I was 13, I launched RJS Fresh and Frozen Meat Trading in Johor. This wasn’t just a new business venture; it was a homage to my father’s dedication and a continuation of the values he instilled in me.

Today, RJS Fresh and Frozen Meat Trading stands as a testament to our enduring commitment to quality and tradition. Specializing in Mutton, Lamb, and Goat products, we have grown to serve customers across the country. Our vision is expansive yet deeply rooted in our history. We plan to spread our wings across various states and, eventually, return to where it all began – Penang.
